Local Priorities

The previous local priorities for the area were to tackle the following:

• Nuisance driving and vehicles across the area,
• Theft, begging, street drinking, drug dealing, substance misuse and associated ASB in shopping precincts and shops.

Status Update

Residents previously asked us to focus on the following issues:

Continue to tackle nuisance driving and vehicles across the area.
*Numerous e-bikes and e-scooters have been seized under Op Scoot. Speeding operations in Martins Way, Canterbury Way, Ripon Road, and Wedgewood Way have been conducted resulting in fines being issued.

Tackle theft, begging, street drinking, drug dealing, substance misuse and associated ASB in shopping precincts and shops across North Stevenage.
• We have executed several warrants at addresses in the area, resulting in arrests for drug related crime.
• Numerous people have been arrested for drug related issues, including knife possession.
• We have carried out targeted patrols to tackle vehicle interference, resulting in stop searches of known offenders.
• The Oval has been included in our extra Hot Spot patrols.
• We have monitored licenced premises which are known to be associated with ASB and test purchase operations have been carried out to ensure licensed premises are adhering to the terms of their licences.
• Knife sweeps have been regularly carried out at the Oval and St Nicholas Park.

Mobile and foot patrols have been carried out around The Oval and numerous arrests have been made in connection with drug related crime.

The new priorities for May to August are as follows:

• Speed enforcement in Canterbury Way, North Road and Vardon Road.
• Drugs and related issues in all north wards, but specifically in Wisden Road, Vardon Road, Fairview Road, Meadway and North Road.
• Target theft from motor vehicle with a primary focus in the Old Town Ward, but extending across all North Wards.

Status Update

Residents will see their dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team of PCs and PCSOs working alongside partners to tackle these issues, through an increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement.
